GARFIELD -- Two teachers were injured when an SUV crashed through a basement window at the city's James Madison School on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

No students were hurt, according to police. It was not clear what caused the Toyota SUV to hit the school.

The teachers were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for observation, NorthJersey.com reported.

Students were temporarily told to shelter in place at the Alpine Street building, a school official said in an announcement at the scene.

Police officers roped off an area near the damaged window while a Garfield Board of Education crew worked to clean up the scene.

Additional details were not immediately available.
