HACKENSACK -- Two of the seven workers injured in a scaffolding collapse at a garden apartment complex remain in critical condition, a city official said Friday.
Three workers in total were still hospitalized, according to City Manager David Troast. Authorities have not publicly identified the men.
The workers were installing a roof at 139 Tracy Place when the scaffolding collapsed around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the fire department said. The men dropped about 35 feet.
Troast said the matter was under investigation by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. He would not say if proper permits were issued for the work, citing the ongoing probe.
Management at the apartment complex could not be immediately reached for comment.
