A GoFundMe page was set up by the victim's friend, Elliot Kim, to help Lee's daughter and wife.

JERSEY CITY -- An online fundraiser has been established to assist the family of a Palisades Park man who was fatally shot Saturday afternoon inside his Jersey City clothing store.

Byungeun Lee, 61, was killed at about 4 p.m. inside Top Plus on Bergen Avenue near Journal Square in an apparent robbery, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced.

A GoFundMe page was set up by the victim's friend, Elliot Kim, to help Lee's daughter and wife.

According to the fundraising page, Lee had been working to keep his business afloat and "lived to provide for his family."

"This tragic and unforeseen event shows that it could have been anyone's husband or father," Kim wrote. "Our goal is to bring a little bit of financial relief and empathy toward the Lee family."

Tonight, a memorial service will be held for Lee at Keeho Kim Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home is located at 1601 Palisade Ave. in Fort Lee.

Kim wrote Lee "was loved by the neighbors of his shop who often helped him open and close the steel gate because his age and condition prevented him to use much strength."

As of Tuesday morning, the page has raised $1,210 from 17 donors since Sunday.

The homicide happened in the middle of the afternoon a week before Christmas in a busy shopping district of the city.

On Sunday morning, neighboring businesses said Lee was a "very nice man" who often read the Bible inside his shop.

A memorial of candles and messages has been growing outside Top Plus.

Lee's murder is the 24th in Jersey City, surpassing the total of 2014. All 23 of Hudson County's homicides in 2014 were in Jersey City, while there have been 29 so far across the county.

No arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit at 201-915-1345 or by leaving an anonymous tip on the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office official website.
