Thomas J. Vanderweit of Saddle Brook must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - One of two men charged in a road-rage accident that killed a woman heading to church has been sentenced to six years in prison following a conviction last month, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Thomas J. Vanderweit, 30, of Saddle Brook must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence and was ordered to pay the victim's funeral expenses, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
A Bergen County jury found Vanderweit guilty of vehicular homicide last month.
The July 2012 accident killed Annetta Billingy of Teaneck, who was being driven to church by John Emili, then 20, of New City, N.Y. Emili is being tried separately.
Witnesses saw Vanderweit and Emili driving erratically in the Parkway's northbound lanes before the crash. Both drivers made frequent lane changes, tailgating each other and speeding before Emili crashed, according to the NJ State Police.
The crash occurred near Exit 168 in Washington Township. Billingly was ejected from the vehicle, according to state police.
Vanderweit and Emili were not hurt.
