HACKENSACK -- A 39-year-old Emerson man is accused of causing "a significant injury" to a 9-year-old girl, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.
Marlon Rafael Salvador-Jauregui was arrested Wednesday on aggravated assault and child endangerment charges, according to a statement from the prosecutor's office. He was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, with no 10 percent option.
The girl was described by authorities as an acquaintance of Salvador-Jauregui.
The arrest came after Emerson police learned of the unspecified injury and notified the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency, which contacted prosecutors, the statement said.
The child's condition was not immediately clear. Officials did not immediately respond to a message seeking further information.
