RIVER VALE -- A 58-year-old man was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries after he fell about nine feet at a construction site Tuesday, authorities said.
The Oak Island, North Carolina, man was working at a Cedar Lane home and standing on the sill of the foundation when he apparently lost his balance, and tumbled onto the concrete below, according to Detective Sgt. John J. DeVoe.
Police officers at the scene stabilized the man until emergency medical responders arrived and took over care, police said in a news release. The township fire department also responded to help extricate the injured man and a medical helicopter was alerted.
The team of first responders used a rescue basket to remove the injured man, according to DeVoe. He was rushed by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley and flown to the hospital's Hackensack facility.
Police said they did not have any updates on the man's medical condition and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating.
The Old Tappan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Hackensack University Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit Paramedics responded along with township police and firefighters.
