Susan Capozzi, 28, of Lodi appeared to be breathing, but officers were unable to wake her, they said.
LODI - Police officers used their batons to smash the passenger window of a vehicle after spotting the driver slumped over the steering wheel, authorities said Monday.
Susan Capozzi, 28, of Lodi was slumped over the wheel of her car about 6 p.m. Saturday in the intersection of Westervelt Place and Arnot Street, police said.
Capozzi appeared to be breathing, but officers were unable to wake her, they said.
Through the windows, officers observed a white powdery substance on the shift indicator and several syringes near the woman's legs, police said.
"The officers then made a forced entry into the vehicle by using their batons, and breaking the passenger side window since the door was locked," police said in a statement.
When EMS arrived the woman regained consciousness and refused medical treatment, police said.
Capozzi was charged with driving under the influence of narcotics, possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, police said.
She was released on $5,000 bail.
