HACKENSACK -- A trial date may be forthcoming for 10 defendants charged in the death of a a 14-year-old Paterson girl.

All 10 defendants appeared Monday in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

Judge James J. Guida said he would set a trial date at a hearing on Feb. 29.

Jeavonte Dennis, Quajeir Culbreath, Jalon Brown, Devonte Lewis, Tyheem Mayfield, Nyje Johnson, Knolaisha Washington, Shakeem Ricks, Nyjeir Barrett and Baseem Williams have all pleaded not guilty to charges tying them to the death of Nazerah Bugg.

A grand jury indicted Ricks, Williams, Mayfield, Johnson, Lewis, Culbreath and Dennis on attempted murder charges. Barrett, Washington and Brown were indicted on charges of hindering the apprehension of the shooting suspects.

Nazerah was shot by a group of people on Sept. 20, 2014 as she walked near Mom's Fried Chicken in Paterson, prosecutors have said. Nazerah does not appear to have been the target of the shooting.

The International High School freshman was a talented basketball player. The case has been moved to Bergen County because a relative of Nazerah's works in the Passaic County criminal court.

The 10 defendants are due back before Guida on Feb. 29 at 1:30 p.m.
