SOUTH HACKENSACK -- A traffic stop Saturday led police to two arrests and cocaine worth an estimated $1.8 million, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.
Police in South Hackensack stopped a vehicle driven by Audy Rodriguez, 35.
The Clifton man had about 14 kilograms of cocaine, Grewal said. The cocaine had an estimated wholesale value of $500,000 and a street value of $1.8 million.
The stop led police to execute a search warrant Sunday at the Palisades Park home of Edison Saldivar-Valdez, 32, Grewal said. Police arrested Saldivar-Valdez and seized money wrappers and a machine used to detect counterfeit cash.
Saldivar-Valdez and Rodriguez were charged with possession of more than five ounces of cocaine with intent to distribute. Saldivar-Valdez was also charged with conspiracy to possess more than five ounces of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Bail was set at $100,000 for Rodriguez and $150,000 for Saldivar-Valdez, with no option to pay 10 percent cash. They were sent to Bergen County Jail.
