Edward Clark, 36, of Paterson, was charged with aggravated sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child
PATERSON -- A physical education teacher was charged Wednesday with having sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl at School 8, authorities said.
Edward Clark, 36, of Hackensack, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child for committing an act of sexual contact with a student, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Acting Paterson Police Chief William Fraher said in a news release.
Clark was hired by the Paterson school district in 2014 to work at School 10, but, last year, he was transferred to School 8, according to the Paterson Press and The Record.
Clark was released from Passaic County jail Thursday after posting $50,000 bail, Passaic County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bill Maer said. Under the terms of his bail, he's barred from having unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18.
Terry Corallo, a spokeswoman for the Paterson school district, said the student allegedly assaulted by Clark has been offered counseling.
Clark, a non-tenured teacher, began working at School 8 this past September, Corallo said. He was fired Wednesday after charges were filed.
