WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- A Washington Township police officer was treated for minor injuries after a drunk driver crashed into his patrol car near the Westwood border, authorities said Thursday.
Police received a 9-1-1 call about a possibly intoxicated motorist driving east on Washington Avenue around 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.
Washington Township Officer Michael Ferrarini spotted the vehicle and turned on his cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to catch up, police said in a statement.
Both vehicles crashed near Westwood, authorities said. The alleged drunk driver's car continued and was soon involved in another wreck.
Ferrarini was treated at an area hospital, police said. The other driver was not hurt and charged by Westwood police with driving while intoxicated.
Westwood police did not immediately respond to a request for further information.
