A Fairview man driving a van crashed into a McGinley Square building this morning in Jersey City, but luckily no one was injured, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari said.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Hudson County Sheriff's officers came across a 1999 Dodge Caravan on the sidewalk after it had crashed near Bergen and Storms avenues in Jersey City.

The 31-year-old driver was disoriented and confused. Officers learned that the man was travelling southbound on Bergen Avenue when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic near Montgomery Street, struck a livery cab, and then jumped the curb and onto the sidewalk, Schillari said.

The vehicle hit the wall of the Burger King at the corner of Montgomery and Bergen avenues and then continued down the sidewalk. It scraped along the buildings, before getting wedged between a light pole in front of a jewelry store, just before a day care center, Schillari said.

Schillari said investigators think the driver may have suffered a seizure. He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health for evaluation.

The driver was given a field sobriety test, but was not believed to be impaired by alcohol. He was also issued a summons for driving with a suspended license.

"We are very lucky that no one was injured and no one was on the sidewalk at the time," Schillari said in a statement.
