Luisa Pleger, 47, was found dead last week. Her husband, Eric, 45, is jailed on murder and weapons charges.

NORTH ARLINGTON - A 47-year-old borough woman found dead last week in the apartment she shared with her husband was beaten multiple times in the head with a hammer, according to law enforcement and the Bergen County Medical Examiner.

Luisa Pleger, 47, was found inside Apartment 28K in the Riverview Gardens apartment complex Friday afternoon. She had been dead at least a day, the prosecutor said.

In the apartment with her was husband Eric Pleger, 45.

"A blunt object was used as a weapon during the killing and was recovered during a search of the scene," Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said in a statement on Monday.

The criminal complaint identifies the object as a hammer and accuses Eric Pleger of beating his wife with the object sometime last Thursday or Friday.

North Arlington police were called about 12:15 p.m on Friday to the home by a worker in the apartment complex leasing office who asked for a welfare check of Luisa.

Eric Pleger is charged with murder and weapons possession.

He pled not guilty on Monday and is being held in the Bergen County Jail on $2 million bail.

Luisa's father, Nelson Hernandez, said earlier on Monday that his daughter always appeared happy.

"She was so special," Hernandez said. "A special girl, a special wife, a special daughter."
