Charles "Darrell" Blain is charged with armed robbery in connection with a holdup at Wides Liquor Store in Englewood, police said.
ENGLEWOOD - City police have arrested a man they say pointed a handgun at two liquor-store employees - cocking the hammer back on the weapon - before stealing hundreds of dollars in cash.
The suspect was convicted of murder decades ago, police said.
The Jan. 27 robbery at Wides Liquors, located at 228 West Englewood Ave., was caught on video. Police released the video Wednesday night.
"City patrol officers responded within minutes (of the robbery) but could not locate the suspect," Detective Captain Timothy Torell said in a statement.
But when detectives reviewed the store's security video they noticed the suspect wearing a pair of "distinctive Nike Air Blue Mirror Foamposite sneakers and a Northface coat," Torell said.
"Within the following days, after closely examining the areas of the suspect's face that were exposed during the robbery, along with tips from within the community," police made an arrest, Torell said.
Charles "Darrell" Blain was charged with armed robbery. They say clerks handed him $200-$300 after he threatened them with the gun.
Police say Blain has a criminal record that includes a murder conviction in New York City in 1989. Details of that conviction were not available Wednesday night.
In addition to the robbery, Blain was wanted on a Bergen County child support warrant, police said.
Blain was taken to the Bergen County Jail on $250,000 full cash bail.
