BERGENFIELD - A vehicle struck and injured a man in a wheelchair along with his aide - the man who was pushing him across the street, police said Thursday.
The accident occurred about 10:46 p.m. Wednesday as the men tried to cross South Washington Avenue north of New Bridge Road.
The pedestrians, both Bergenfield residents, were in an unmarked part of the roadway, moving west to east when they were struck by a vehicle on South Washington, police said
The man in the wheelchair, Edward Marshall, 61, suffered upper body injuries.
The man who was pushing him was identified as Leroy Fray, 59, who suffered cuts to his face and a possible broken arm, police said.
The victims were taken to a local hospital.
The driver, Judith Nadzick, 67, of Elmwood Park, was not charged.
Animal control was called to the scene because Marshall had been carrying a pet snake in a box, police said. Animal control officers removed the pet from the accident scene.
