Driver injured in Dec. 26 robbery, police say
RIDGEWOOD -- A third man was arrested Tuesday in the December armed robbery and kidnapping of a taxi driver in Ridgewood, village police said.
Guillermo Carrillo-Iraheta, 18, faces charges, including carjacking, armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and weapons offenses, according to a police news release issued.
Wilber Jonathan Barahona, of Ridgewood, and Jostin Vidal Soriano Reyes, of Waldwick, both 20, face the same charges in connection with the robbery, police previously said.
The men hailed a taxi in Paterson and were headed to Waldwick when they told the driver to stop on North Monroe Street in Ridgewood in the early morning hours of Dec. 26, according to police.
They assaulted and robbed the driver before kidnapping him and fleeing in the cab, the news release said. The driver was eventually "dumped" along the New York State Thruway and suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Police said the arrests came after a six-month investigation involving law enforcement in Bergen County, Passaic County, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, along with New York and New Jersey state police.
Village police said they would not release further information while the investigation continued.
All three of the men were held at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $400,000 bail, according to sheriff's office records.
