The county faces increased health care costs and debt service.
HACKENSACK -- Bergen County may face a tax increase in 2016 due to employee health care cost increases and debt service on construction at the Bergen County Justice Center, The Record reported.
The county owes an additional $3.4 million in debt service on bonds for the $147 million reconstruction of the Bergen County Justice Center and $12 million more for employee health care, County Executive James Tedesco said Tuesday in his state of the county address.
Tedesco and Freeholder Maura DeNicola said the county should seek more aid from the state relative to the taxes it pays. The 2015 county budget increased spending by $22.6 million, raising property taxes 4.3 percent.
