Donald DeWitt pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child.
HACKENSACK — A former Bergen County Academies teacher pleaded guilty Feb. 17 to endangering the welfare of a child after being accused of having sexual relations with a student, court records show.
Donald DeWitt, 66, of Warwick, N.Y., was arrested April 13 and accused of sexual activity and exchanging emails with a 16-year-old student.
DeWitt was one of the first teachers hired at Bergen County Academies, teaching biology and human sexuality. The school banned DeWitt from campus following the charges.
He's been free on $300,000 bail since April 15.
DeWitt's lawyer, Anthony Afflito was not available to comment.
DeWitt had initially been charged with criminal sexual contact and attempted sexual assault in addition to endangering the welfare of a child.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 27 before Judge Margaret M. Foti.
