Police stopped four men wearing black, including one wearing a ski mask.
PARAMUS -- Police arrested four would-be burglars early Saturday.
The burglar alarm activated at the T-Mobile Store on Route 4 westbound at about 12:56 a.m. Saturday, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth R. Ehrenberg said.
Police found a broken rear window and footprints leading to and from woods behind the building.
Officer Connor Nutland, who was helping cover the perimeter, saw a 2009 Honda Accord speed out of Frisch Court, which backs up to the T-Mobile store, Ehrenberg said. Nutland stopped the vehicle on Forest Avenue.
The driver, Luis Marte, 36, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and the three other occupants all were wearing black clothing. Some wore black gloves and one wore a black ski mask, Ehrenberg said.
Nutland and other officers also saw burglary tools on the back seat, Ehrenberg said. None of the four men could give a reason for being there.
Marte, as well as Gadiel Olivo, 31, of Bronx, N.Y., Sergio Suazo, 28, of Cranston, R.I., and Willis Pepinporte, 26, of Bronx, N.Y., were arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools and attempted burglary. They were sent to Bergen County Jail on $10,000 bail, with no option to pay 10 percent cash.
