FAIR LAWN - Police arrested two people Thursday after finding what they said was a pound of marijuana inside mason jars and plastic food containers, along with $16,126 cash from a home on Elmary Place.
Michael Abelev, 19, and Jaewon Choi, 20, both of Fair Lawn, were arrested about 8 p.m. following a month-long investigation based on a tip.
In addition to drugs and money, cops said they found drug paraphernalia that included glass pipes, baggies and sandwich bags, digital scales and grinders. Also seized were prescription pills packaged for distribution, police said.
Abelev was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public park and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $75,000.
Choi was released after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
While officers were on scene, a 2014 Volkswagen travelling on Elmary Place made an abrupt u-turn to leave the area and was stopped on Burbank Street at Floral Place. The driver, Edmond Elezaj, age 18 of Fair Lawn, was arrested after evidence of marijuana use was located inside his vehicle, police said in a statement.
Elezaj was released after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving and provisional driving violation, police said.
