Abdulla Taylor, 22, of Paterson was charged with burglary and theft.

FAIR LAWN - When John Bogdanffy's Essex Place home was burglarized Tuesday, his neighbor showed him surveillance video of the alleged thief running through the neighborhood.

Less than three hours later, Bogdanffy was driving near his home when he saw somebody who looked a lot like the man in the video.

"It looked just like the guy," Bogdanffy told CBSlocal.com. "I mean, wearing the same clothes and everything."

Bogdanffy drove up to the man and snapped a cellphone picture.

"What are you taking my picture for?" the man asked.

"I said, 'My house was robbed and you look like the guy. You look like the guy in the video,'" Bogdanffy told the man.

The suspect ran off but police later found him hiding behind a parked car in Paterson, according to Fair Lawn police Sgt. Brian Metzler.

Abdulla Taylor, 22, of Paterson was charged with burglary and theft. His bail was set at $2,500 and he was sent to Bergen County Jail.

Police said Taylor ransacked the victim's house and stole $250 cash.

Bogdanffy on Friday said he didn't want to take credit for the arrest.

"The local police department did a really good job," he said. "That's pretty much how the guy got caught."
