The council approved the settlement agreement despite resident opposition.
DUMONT -- The Borough Council on Tuesday night approved a settlement agreement that gives a developer permission to build 142 residential units on the former D'Angelo Farms and current Borough Hall properties, the Record reported.
Developer Landmark Dumont LLC sued the borough two years ago to re-zone the land for development.
Under the settlement agreement, The Borough must declare the farm and borough hall properties areas in need of redevelopment and name Landmark as the redeveloper or rezone the sites to allow for development by Aug. 1.
Many residents oppose development, including the Families Advocating a Reasonable Masterplan in Dumont Facebook group. The group wrote post calling the settlement agreement a "bad deal for Dumont."

Borough Attorney Gregg Paster said the settlement was likely better than any decision that would have been imposed in court.
