Man accused of shooting 85-year-old woman as she slept on a couch
HACKENSACK -- A judge on Thursday found a Lodi man not guilty by reason of insanity in the shooting death of his 85-year-old grandmother as she slept in their home, The Record reported.
Joseph Bariso, 30, remained held at the Bergen County Jail and would be placed under the supervision of the state Division of Mental Health Services, according to county records and the report.
A grand jury indicted Bariso on a first-degree murder charge in the Dec. 29, 2013 slaying of Olga Bariso. She was in critical condition, but died weeks after the shooting.
"Joseph C. Bariso used a handgun from the residence and shot Olga Bariso multiple times as she lay sleeping on the living room couch," then-Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli previously said.

The two were said to have a close relationship, the newspaper's report said. Family members described Olga Bariso cooking meals for her grandson, who lived in a basement apartment at their Union Street home.
