A man driving a car with New Jersey license plates tried to strike up a conversation with two children attending a birthday party at a home in Rockland County just across the New York state line Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
While seated in his car, the man asked two children standing in the driveway of the Pearl River home questions about locating a lemonade stand, Orangetown police said in a news release.
Described as white with brown hair, possibly in a bun and wearing glasses, the man also claimed he spoke to the sister of one of the children, police said.
When an adult at the party approached the newer model Ford Taurus, the man fled, according to police. He was wearing a red and blue short-sleeved shirt with square patterns on it.
The incident took place on Mapleshade Drive at about 5:45 p.m., police said.
Cops searched the area, but couldn't find the car matching. Orangetown police ask anyone with information to call (845) 359-2121.
The neighborhood is less than two miles from Montvale and slightly more than two miles from River Vale.
