TEANECK - Five men and one juvenile have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder after a dispute on Twitter led to a luring and multiple shots fired in a residential area, police said on Thursday.
The shooting occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on Jan. 4 in the area of Ayers Court and Hill Street. Arriving officers found a parked vehicle with a shattered window and bullet holes.
Witnesses told police they saw at least four people crouched beside the vehicle as the shots rang out.
"Subsequent investigation determined that the shooting was the result of a dispute between two groups of people who were exchanging messages on the social network Twitter," Teaneck police Chief Robert A. Carney said in a statement.
Cell phones were seized from suspects identified in the online dispute and a search warrant was obtained to retrieve data from the phones, Carney said.
"The search of the phones, which was conducted with the assistance of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, revealed incriminating evidence relating to the shooting," Carney said.
