The Board of Education settled a case which alleged that a former Passaic Valley High School teacher molested a former student.
PASSAIC -- The Passaic Valley Board of Education has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by a former student who was allegedly sexually assaulted in 2008 by her science teacher when she was 15 for $35,000, according to a copy of the settlement agreement.
The woman, now 23, alleged in her lawsuit that former Passaic Valley High School teacher Demetrick A. Williams inappropriately touched her, molested her and forced her to take sexually explicit photographs of herself.
Criminal records show Williams pleaded guilty in September 2008 to endangering the welfare of a child and was sentenced to two years of probation.
He had the charge amended in 2014 to cruelty and neglect of children and has since filed a motion to have the conviction expunged this June.
Williams' teaching, supervisor and principal certificates were revoked in July 2009 following his conviction. He's barred from serving as a teacher in New Jersey.
The settlement was first reported by John Paff, an open records advocate.
As part the settlement, the two parties agreed to a confidentiality clause in the case.
