2 women hurt after driver fleeing police crashes in Hackensack

Police say Romeo M. Abreu, 20, was driving a vehicle that crashed and injured two women.

HACKENSACK - A New York City man has been charged with assault by auto and eluding after an early morning crash on Route 80 injured his passengers, authorities said Monday.

Police spotted Romeo M. Abreu, 20, driving erratically about 1:45 a.m. Friday on Route 80 east, according to N.J. State Police.

With a trooper in pursuit, the vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned near Exit 64, police said.

Glenda Kickuth, 22, who was in the front seat, suffered serious injuries.

Tatiana Escobar, 20, who was in the back, suffered leg injuries. Both women were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, police said.

Abreu was charged with two counts of assault by auto and eluding police.

Bail was set at $50,000.
