The Port Authority Police Department is stepping up its crackdown on drunk driving this weekend.
Police officers from the bi-state agency will be conducting DWI checkpoints at Hudson River crossings from approximately 10 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Drivers will be subject to random inspections during this time. Police also will distribute literature on the dangers of drinking and driving.
Several Port Authority police officers were recently honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for their efforts in combating drunk driving. Officer Edwin Berdecia made 51 DWI stops in 2015 and received the MADD 2015 New Jersey Top Gun Award, while officers Anthony Cutrone and Rhett Peppi also received commendations from the organization.
