If you frequent the highways of North Jersey, you may have seen billboards for State Fair Meadowlands, which opens on Thursday in East Rutherford.
Whether Donald Trump would approve is unknown, but this year's tagline for the fair's ads is unquestionably Trumpian in nature.
"Making New Jersey Great Again!" it blares, as if ripped off one of the presidential candidate's signature red baseball caps.
"When we all sit around the conference table brainstorming copy lines, we come up with funny, silly, timely, irreverent, disturbing or saccharin(e) phrases," Michele Tartaglione, managing director of the fair, said in an email. "We rarely use disturbing and/or saccharin(e); we usually use timely and irreverent."
Tartaglione says staff vote on the concepts before they make it to ads and billboards. The Trump-inspired slogan, delivered on the occasion of the fair's 30th anniversary, was no exception.
"Obviously this line is funny, timely and irreverent," she said.
