HO-HO-KUS -- A fire on Saturday caused "extensive" damage to a Hollywood Avenue home, officials said.
The fire was burning at a detached garage and spreading to the back of the house when firefighters were called at about 6:12 p.m., the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department said in a press release.
Firefighters stretched hoses into the front door of the home. By then, the fire had spread into the eves of an addition to the rear of the home.
Firefighters extinguished most of the flames from the inside, the release said. Because of the excessive heat, Ho-Ho-Kus called for mutual aid from 11 nearby fire departments.
The fire, which reached four alarms, was deemed accidental. It damaged the detached garage, the rear of the home, second floor and attic. There was smoke and water damage throughout the house.
