Police received a 911 call saying a child had been pulled from a swimming pool in cardiac arrest at Kaplen JCC on the Palisades community center.
TENAFLY - Police and rescue workers were at the scene of a possible drowning Thursday at Kaplen JCC on the Palisades community center, authorities said.
The victim, identified by the JCC as an 8-year-old boy, was hospitalized Thursday night.
Police received a 911 call about 3:45 p.m. saying a child had been pulled from a swimming pool in cardiac arrest, according to Tenafly police Capt. Michael deMoncada.
"Police and EMS arrived and were working on him, performing CPR," deMoncada said.
The child, whose age was not available, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.
PIX-11.com reported Thursday evening the child was in critical condition.
The child was reportedly found in shallow water at an end of the pool.
On its Facebook page, Kaplen JCC posted:
"There was an incident this afternoon at our outdoor pool where an 8-year-old boy had an episode in shallow water and was pulled from the water. Rescue procedures were provided immediately by our JCC lifeguard staff and emergency responders called. The child has been transported to the hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as we all hope for a full recovery."
Jordan Shenker, CEO at Kaplen JCC, was not available to comment on the incident Thursday afternoon.
The center, which is located on Clinton Avenue, is a community center offering swimming and other recreational activity.
The center is available to children and adults, according its promotional material.
