Port Authority Police received a call about 12:20 a.m. Monday reporting a man was on his way to the GWB to commit suicide
FORT LEE - Police early Monday stopped a man - the third in less than a week - from jumping off the George Washington Bridge, according to Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo.
Port Authority police working on the bridge received a call about 12:20 a.m. reporting that a man was on his way to the bridge to commit suicide, Pentangelo said.
"Fort Lee PD located his vehicle on Hudson Terrace," Pentangelo said.
Moments later, Port Authority officers located the man mid-span on the south walkway of the bridge, Pentangelo said.

The man was stopped and removed from the bridge without incident, Pentangelo said.
The unidentified man was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for evaluation, the spokesman said.
In separate incidents last Wednesday and Thursday, men were stopped from jumping off the bridge, police said.
There have been 40 interventions on the bridge this year. There have been eight suicides.
In 2015, 18 people jumped to their deaths from the George Washington Bridge.
