TENAFLY -- A 9-year-old boy died Sunday, days after he was pulled from a pool at a community center on the Palisades, police said.
Michael Placide, of Brooklyn, was pulled from an outdoor pool Thursday at Kaplen JCC, Tenafly Police said in a press release. He was in cardiac arrest, police said at the time.
CPR was in progress when Tenafly Police were called at about 3:42 p.m. The boy was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.
He died in the pediatric intensive care unit Sunday at 12:54 p.m., police said. He was surrounded by family when he died.
Tenafly Police are continuing their investigation.
Kaplen JCC's 185,000-square-foot facility includes both an indoor and outdoor pool. The center issued a statement Friday offering thoughts and prayers for Michael's family.
"We recognize that the incident caused anxiety about pool safety and want to affirm that the JCC takes issues of safety very seriously," the statement said. "Our aquatics programs and pool facilities, like all of our programs and facilities, exceed all relevant health and safety regulations and guidelines provided by the NJ Department of Health."
