Robert Meyers, who is also charged with terroristic threats, served as fire chief in Saddle Brook from 2012-13.
SADDLE BROOK - A volunteer with the township fire department has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman last Saturday, authorities said.
Robert Meyers, 40, was arrested after a woman showed up at Hackensack University Medical Center and said she was the victim of a sexual assault earlier in the day at a home in Saddle Brook, said Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
Meyers is listed as a firefighter on the township website. He served as fire chief in Saddle Brook in 2012-13, according to the website.
The prosecutor said Meyers was charged with sexual assault and terroristic threats.
He was released after posting $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 2.
The Record reported that Meyers has agreed to take a voluntary leave of absence while the charges are pending.
