Michael Tattoli, of Carlstadt, deposited business checks in his personal account to hide the income

TRENTON -- A Carlstadt roofer was sentenced Wednesday to six months in prison and six months of home confinement for hiding more than $191,000 in income from the Internal Revenue Service.

Michael Tattoli previously pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court in Trenton to a charge of personal income tax evasion, according to a statement from the IRS Criminal Investigation division in Newark.

Between 2010 and 2012, Tattoli, owner of Mike's All Seasons Roofing and Construction Co., deposited approximately $191,295 in checks payable to his business directly into his personal bank account, the statement says.

Authorities say Tattoli intentionally avoided reporting the funds on his tax returns for those years. The total amount of tax owed on the funds would have been approximately $62,000, according to court paperwork.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Anne E. Thompson sentenced Tattoli to one year of supervised release and fined him $3,000, the statement says.
