HILLSDALE -- It's the great thief Charlie Brown.
The Hillsdale Police Department put out a call Thursday to help locate a man seen on home security footage stealing an ornamental lawn sign of Peanuts characters dressed up for Halloween.
The gang was all there in the decoration, dressed up in their costumes, including Snoopy and Charlie Brown, said Hillsdale Detective Bill Diedtrich. He said it was the first time the department had released surveillance footage to catch a bandit.
"Just because the surveillance footage was decent enough quality, between the image of the vehicle and offender, there's a high probability that someone could make an identification," Diedtrich said.

The cast-iron sign was located in the front yard of a home on the east side of Hillsdale, near the border of River Vale. It was stolen on the afternoon of October 12, Diedtrich said.
In the video, a man can be seen exiting a yellow Jeep Wrangler and approaching the front of the home before removing the sign.
