Celebrating the dedication to making a difference in the homes of Hudson County families, Visiting Homemaker Service (VHS) is hosting a Cocktail Reception at the historic William J. Brennan Courthouse Rotunda in Jersey City. Chocolate and Champagne will honor Hudson County Unsung Heroes on Thursday, November 12th from 6 to 9pm and tickets are still available online or at the door.
For 56 years, VHS's primary mission has been to provide home based care for the elderly and disabled. Moving Beyond Home Care, VHS is expanding their services to assist families across all generations through its family services department with counseling and support services. By honoring local community members who have supported VHS over the years, they wish to highlight contributions that have impacted our communities greatly.
The William J. Guarini Plumbing and Heating Company, one of the honorees, donated 40 brand new bicycles in 2014 to VHS which were given out to the children in their various family programs, during Christmas time.
"We were very excited to see the joy on the children's faces," said some of the staff members who were in charge of distributing the bicycles, "the parents were just as thrilled, too."
This event hopes to raise funds to continue the services both from their homemaking program as well as their family services department. There will be a 50/50 raffle drawing in addition to a giving tree. The giving tree will carry ornaments of children's names and clothing sizes where guests can make a donation to put a smile on a child's face. Like our honorees William J. Melms and Mr. Prasad Gurnani, guests can supply children with happiness and can hang the ornament on their tree to remind themselves that giving is the source of cheer this time of year.
Other honorees are:
- Mrs. Willie Mae Covington a Home Health Aide with Visiting Homemaker Service
- Ms. Victoria Parks, - Office of County Executive
- Mr. Leonardo Martinez, President of Community Networking Association of Hudson County
