The Oradell man identified himself as an officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but cops later learned that he was fired from the office in 2012, police said

PATERSON -- A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer from New Jersey pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend Thursday and threatened to kill her, police said.

City police responded to a home at Broadway and East 26th Street just before 7 a.m. after they received reports of the incident in which the woman's current boyfriend was also threatened, Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Ryan Pagan of Oradell, fled from the scene in a blue Mustang that had California license plates, Speziale said. Officers caught up to the car as it pulled into the parking lot of a Firestone store at 280 Broadway, he said.

Although Pagan refused to open his door or lower his window, he was taken from the car without incident, Speziale said.

Inside the car, officers found a Glock model-17  9mm handgun fully loaded with a 10-round magazine; an assault riffle with two  loaded 30-round magazines and a ballistic vest, which authorities later learned was listed as stolen, Speziale said.

Pagan identified himself to police as a U. S. Customs and Border Protection officer, Speziale said. A check with the Department of Homeland Security revealed that Pagan was fired from that agency in 2012 and that he never returned his ballistic vest, Speziale said.

Pagan was charged with a domestic violence form of harassment, aggravated assault and numerous weapon charges, he said.
