Westfield Garden State Plaza will undergo a remodel, starting in February with a new dining hal

PARAMUS -- Westfield Garden State Plaza will undergo a remodel, starting in February with a new dining hall.

The mall makeover will also include a new children's play area, redesigned interiors and seating and updated digital media screens.

The new dining hall is a total overhaul of the existing food court, said Lisa Herrmann-Srednicki, a spokeswoman for Garden State Plaza.

"The new food hall will have an 'urban bistro' look and feel with some new food offerings," she said.

The play area will have a New Jersey Shore Theme, Herrmann-Srednicki added.

The remodel comes three years after Garden State Plaza added a $160 million fashion wing. Work is expected to start in February, with the new dining hall expected to open in October. Unlike the new wing, this year's upgrade won't change the size of the mall.

Most of the work will take place after mall hours, Garden State Plaza said in a statement. The project will update art displays, landscaping, parking lot lighting and pavement, replace the roof, upgrade heat and energy systems, improve Wi-Fi and other digital systems and boost security.

The makeover comes as the mall adds the first Amazon bookstore in the state. Nespresso, Fabletics, Mighty Quinn's BBQ and the first U.S. location of German fashion brand Marc Cain are also opening in 2017.
