RAMSEY -- Police discovered handguns, a rifle, knives and ammunition in a Louisiana man's pickup truck after he threatened a restaurant patron in the borough, authorities said Thursday.
Joseph Zych, 38, was in custody Friday at the Bergen County Jail on a range of weapons charges, including possession of assault rifle, possession of hollow point bullets, possession of high capacity magazines and making threats, records show.
The arrest came after police responded to the Chili's on Route 17 north Tuesday night, Chief Bryan Gurney said in a statement. A customer told police Zych said he had guns in his truck and threatened to use the weapons.
Zych appeared to be drunk and officers spotted an empty pistol holster between the driver's seat and center console of his truck, Gurney added. Officer Robert McMackin received a search warrant that led police to the weapons.
In all, police seized a Taurus 44 magnum handgun, two speed loaders with 44 magnum hollow point bullets, two Browning Arms 9mm pistols with hollow point rounds, an AR-15 rifle, two knives and a set of handcuffs, the chief added.
Authorities said Zych, of Duson, Louisiana, was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $50,000 full bail.
