ELMWOOD PARK -- A gunman robbed a gas station on Broadway late Friday in a case that could be linked to another holdup in the borough on Christmas Eve, police said.
Officers responded to the Delta gas station around 9 p.m. on a call that the 25-year-old employee was robbed at gunpoint, according to police Chief Michael Foligno.
The robber walked up to the station's booth between gas pumps, opened the door and demanded money, the chief said in an email. He threatened to shoot the attendant and stole about $300.
A K-9 unit from the Bergen County Sheriff's Department tracked the robber's scent and an area resident told officers she saw a man jump the fence at 60 Broadway into a parking lot, Foligno said. The suspected robber managed to escape and detectives were reviewing security camera footage.
Foligno said the gas station robber was described as a man wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, ski mask and blue jeans. That description was similar to the person who robbed a Subway eatery on Boulevard, the chief added.
The robber should be considered armed and "extremely dangerous," according to the chief. Anyone with information was asked to call police at 201-796-0700 and can remain anonymous.
